Arc 3: Part 48
Tong Su was taken aback.
Tian Xuanzi refused to continue on the subject and quickly changed the topic.
"Your recent breakthrough was risky without someone to protect you during the process," he said. "Let me help you align your spiritual energy. Follow my demonic energy and circulate it through your meridians."
Tong Su wanted to ask more, but he did not respond. Instead, he began to control the demonic energy to start the circulation process. With no other choice, she sat cross-legged and began to practice her cultivation.
Before she knew it, the night had passed. When Tong Su awoke from her meditative state, she opened her eyes to find Tian Xuanzi lying beside her, sound asleep.
Tiredness was etched into his features, a fatigue he had desperately kept at bay the day before, now apparent in his restful state.
Tong Su was puzzled. Cultivators often replaced sleep with meditation, especially a Mahayana Cultivator like Tian Xuanzi — unless they had been seriously injured... With a sudden sense of unease, she cautiously reached out and pulled back the collar of his clothing, revealing a strip of white bandage concealing a wound!
He was injured? And had been acting as if nothing was wrong all this time?
Tong Su felt a mix of urgency and anger. She gently got up from the bed, being careful with her movements. Perhaps he was too injured, or maybe he trusted her enough to let his guard down, because he didn't wake up.
Worry filled her heart. How severe was his injury? No wonder she felt there was something off about him since they met — his lethargy now made sense.
Thinking back now, he must have been in great pain from his injuries, rendering him immobile!
Suddenly, there was a disturbance in the protective formation outside the courtyard. Tong Su carefully shut the door and went to the entrance. There, she saw familiar faces — they were Tian Xuanzi's subordinates from the Thousand-Ghosts Demon Cave!
They were forced by Tian Xuanzi to submit to Tong Su with a soul fire control, making betraying her impossible. She felt reassured and let them into the courtyard, asking, "What's the matter?"
One of the demon cultivators suddenly knelt down, pleading urgently, "Miss, please save our master! Even as a Mahayana Cultivator, he can't withstand the pressure of the barrier gate multiple times!"
"What do you mean?!" She demanded.
The demon cultivator lowered his voice to explain, leaving Tong Su with a mixed range of emotions.
She could not fathom how a Mahayana Cultivator like Tian Xuanzi could get severely injured, but it turned out to be because...
He was searching for her.
The barrier gate between the demon realm and human realm did not restrict demon cultivators, but as Tian Xuanzi was a Mahayana Cultivator, every time he passed through, he faced backlash from the barrier's prohibition.
Three years ago, after he dug out his spiritual roots and returned to the demon realm, he waged war with the twelve generals. Even though they were not as powerful as him, they had the home-field advantage and worked together. This resulted in Tian Xuanzi suffering considerable losses.
It took him over a year, during which he killed nine and subdued three, to fully resolve the conflict. Barely having time to prepare himself, he discovered that the barrier gate was about to close again.
"Normally, even if the gate closes, it can always re-open after many years," one of the demon cultivators stated, his face pale and eyes still reflecting fear. "However, our master couldn't wait. He forcibly tried to tear open the barrier gate, attracting a lightning tribulation that mercilessly struck him nine times!"
"Do you know, our master was completely soaked in blood! If he hadn't already subdued the entire demon realm, he would definitely have been in danger if anyone attacked him at that moment..."
He closed his eyes briefly, "Anyway, the master forcibly opened the barrier gate, hurried over here, and found out that Miss, you were in seclusion. So, he's been waiting in the Independent Cultivators City, healing his wounds as best as he could..."
Tong Su ground her teeth in frustration — Tian Xuanzi, this guy!
The last time he dissected his spiritual root, and now the incident of breaking through the barrier gate... Does he think being a Mahayana Cultivator means he's invincible, was he always this reckless?
Tong Su reluctantly took out a gift from her Qiankun bag — Elder Xuan Yan's meeting gift. In it, there were several Ruiteng berries. These fruits were special. They didn't need any pill refining, only to be crushed and ground into powder, and they were extremely effective for healing lightning injuries.
With no time to feel relieved, she hastily prepared and went into the room with the berries. She reached out to grab Tian Xuanzi's collar to change his dressing, but her wrist was suddenly caught.
"Oh," the man opened his eyes and raised an eyebrow with a teasing smile. "In broad daylight, is someone trying to play rogue?"
