Arc 3: Part 32
"Why on earth is Feng Yin Yue so pleased with herself? Scolding me for wasting time, has she made any progress herself? After spending three years on the Cliff of Reflection, she came back as if she's a completely different person, always nitpicking everything."
"Who knows why she had to go to the Cliff of Reflection? She must have committed a grave mistake. Perhaps she was abandoned by the sect leader and now she's venting her anger out on us."
"Suddenly, I miss Sister Bai Tong. Although she's a bit... mentally challenged, she's still a good person. She never gets angry with us. Once she saw me worrying about my lack of elixirs, she gave me a whole bottle of Gu Ben Dan." (Note: strengthening elixir)
The disciples lamented and grumbled behind her back. Unconsciously, the conversation shifted.
"Speaking of which, where has Sister Bai Tong gone to? It's been a while since we last saw her."
A disciple pondered, "Didn't they say that Master Jing Yang was in seclusion and was worried about Sister Bai Tong, so he took her with him? Maybe after some time, Sister Bai Tong will come out of seclusion."
"Yeah, when Sister Bai Tong heard me talk about how fun the human world is and wanted me to help her bring back a paper windmill when I went there, I've been prepared for it for years but never had the chance to bring it to her."
"Ah, Sister Bai Tong is such a good person, why does she suffer from a child-like mind?" Another disciple sighed, "If she could be cured, that would be wonderful. She has a spiritual wood root and has the protection of Master Jing Yang. I don't think Feng Yin Yue will have the nerve to act so cocky then."
"Exactly! Every time I hear Sister Feng Yin Yue's name, I get irritated! I once hurried to return from a mission and almost bumped into her. Feng Yin Yue actually made me climb the sect's ten thousand steps as punishment. No matter how much I pleaded, she just wouldn't let it go."
The others expressed their surprise: “I remember the last time you handed in your sect mission late. Weren’t you penalized with a month’s deduction of elixirs...?"
"Yeah, that time!" the disciple said through clenched teeth. "I heard from senior brother that in thirty years, the Feast of the Three Realms will take place. The sect will select the chief disciple before that, and I will definitely not support Feng Yin Yue!"
The disciples nodded in agreement, each with their own worries: "Right... Anyone but Feng Yin Yue would be better to support, even Sister Bai Tong. If Feng Yin Yue becomes the chief senior disciple, where would we stand?"
Unbeknownst to Feng Yin Yue, her tantrums and outbursts in the Ziwei Palace have sparked a swath of resentment and dissatisfaction among the others. Secretly, this has severed her popularity with the lower-ranking disciples.
She had finally managed to wear down her stubborn spiritual wood root. Although she still couldn’t cultivate, at least the end of her difficult days was in sight.
Feng Yin Yue was so filled with hatred that it felt as if her heart was bleeding, regretting the consumption of Bai Tong’s spiritual root. Far from reaping any benefits, she had wasted her time and was consumed by remorse.
Meanwhile, Tong Su, who was dearly missed by the disciples and hated in the dreams of Feng Yin Yue, was in a city of hermit cultivators nestled in the Hundred-Thousand Mountains, satisfactorily concluding her cultivation.
The spiritual energy was so tumultuous that it formed a vortex above her head. Outside the rental cave she used for secluded cultivation, it attracted a vast expanse of auspicious spiritual energy. Faintly, the sound of a three-legged firebird could be heard, dancing in the sky.
Nearby cultivators sensed something unusual and came out to see for themselves. They praised in admiration: "Someone has formed a golden core!"
"Someone has indeed formed a golden core. I wonder what kind of cultivator they are. Seeing the richness of the auspicious spiritual energy, they must be extremely talented!"
"I remember that cave is rented by a young female cultivator who appears to be under twenty."
"Wow, that’s incredible! A young prodigy indeed, probably not a hermit cultivator after all! I just don't know which clan's young one is out here gaining experience. Ah, truly enviable..."
