Arc 3: Part 31
Feng Yin Yue was on the verge of falling into a state of manic cultivation.
The Cliff of Reflection, with its scarce spiritual energy and constant, bone-piercing gales, was a punishment spot for the disciples. Due to its harsh conditions, it saw few visitors.
This isolation made it ideal for Feng Yin Yue's purpose: refining the Wood Spirit Root she'd taken from Bai Tong.
While the external spiritual energy wasn't that important in internal refining, she'd been confident. However, when she tried to utilize the demon energy disguised as spiritual energy inside her, the consumed Spiritual Wood Root in her Dantian began a fierce resistance, tumbling around like a steel knife!
Feng Yin Yue had absorbed the Spirit Roots of others before. The body she had condensed from her true demonic flower form was mundane and lacked any special talents. All her capabilities were gained by devouring human cultivators.
Her current dual Earth-Wood Spirit Roots, for instance, were attained from a human child. The elders of her kind captured the child specifically for her. She had devoured the child whole, naturally inheriting his Spirit Roots.
Back then, absorption had been smooth and easy. Why was it so impossible now?!
Feng Yin Yue was frustrated, using all her might to refine the Spirit Root. However, the Wood Spirit Root acted like an obstinate stone, occupying her Dantian Qi Sea, shrunk into a ball, and standing immovable despite all adversities.
If she allowed it to stay there, simply giving up on refining it, then she would have offended Tian Xuanzi in vain, gaining nothing.
Worse, the Spirit Root was now like a bone-eating maggot. During her concentrated cultivation, it began to stir up trouble in her Dantian, running rampant through her meridians, and disrupting her Heavenly Circulation cultivation.
Feng Yin Yue had been unable to find any solution to her predicament, even after descending from the Cliff of Reflection. Over the course of three years, not only had she failed to refine the Spiritual Wood Root, but its presence had also hindered her cultivation progress!
She guessed that the reason was that Bai Tong hadn't died. The Spirit Root, sensing its original owner still alive, stubbornly refused to surrender. It would rather exhaust itself than benefit Feng Yin Yue.
--What was the point of forcibly separating and devouring this Spirit Root?
Feng Yin Yue regretted not killing Bai Tong then; now she was in a situation that was neither here nor there.
She felt her heart filled with an increasing sense of resentment, her mood was irritable, and everything seemed to annoy her.
She found herself in a highly sensitive state. If others whispered, she suspected them of mocking her and would lash out easily.
Only in front of Lu Han Yuanjun did she restrain herself. But she dared not talk about her cultivation problems with her, vaguely claiming that the hardships of the Cliff of Reflection were the issue. She reassured her that she would be fine after a period of seclusion in her cave dwelling.
However, this wasn't a problem that could be resolved with time in seclusion. The Spiritual Wood Root in her Dantian would have to gradually dissipate by itself. In the meantime, she wouldn't be able to cultivate, much less participate in any form of combat!
The demonic race's plans were imminent. If she could not secure the position of the chief disciple of Ziwei Palace as soon as possible, how could she cooperate with the demons to bring down Ziwei Palace?
Was she to let all these years go to waste?!
The more Feng Yin Yue thought about it, the more irritated she became. After leaving Lu Han Yuanjun's cave dwelling, she vented her anger on the lower-ranking disciples.
As the sect leader's favorite senior disciple, she practically had free reign at Ziwei Palace. Being of the demon race, she naturally lacked any nurturing instinct towards the human disciples. It almost seemed as if she was venting by causing issues for the lower-ranking disciples at every opportunity.
The lower-ranking disciples at Ziwei Palace were having a hard time.
No matter how cautious and careful they were, Feng Yin Yue could find fault in the smallest details.
If they gathered and chatted, they were accused of wasting time. If they failed to perfect a pill while borrowing the ground fire, they were wasting the sect’s resources. If they failed to break through a bottleneck during their closed-door training, they were accused of wasting time by not cultivating properly, which was considered a grave offense!
