Arc 1: Part 55
A dim light softly illuminated the study room. Tong Su carefully pushed open the door and saw Xi Chen Zhao sitting at his desk.
It appeared he had just washed his face.
His damp hair hung loose, partially covering his handsome face while he intently peered at the glowing screen.
His long, well-defined hands were tirelessly tapping on the keyboard. Amid the steady staccato rhythm, his brows furrowed, and he lightly pressed his lips together.
Tong Su tiptoed ever so silently towards him.
But just as she got near him, Xi Chen Zhao swiftly reached back, catching her wrist in a precise grip. With a quick downward pull, Tong Su let out a gasp, falling into his surprisingly cool embrace.
"Ouch," she exclaimed.
She braced herself against his arm and looked up, only to meet his slightly smiling eyes. His chest was firm - not overtly muscular, but beneath his shirt, the defined lines of his muscles were felt clearly.
The clean minty scent and faint damp air wafting from him evoked a heady atmosphere. A warmth spread across her cheeks, leaving them feeling flushed.
With a curved smile in her eyes, Tong Su didn't bother trying to stand up. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and teased, "How did you know it was me without looking back? What if it had been someone else?"
"No one else has your feather-light footstep. And I wouldn't let anyone else in here," he replied.
He lowered his head; a warm, gentle smile in his eyes, almost brushing against her forehead. The reflection in his deep gaze meshed seemed to hold only her image, lingering.
"What were you doing on your computer?" she asked softly.
Xi Chen Zhao shifted his arm, helping her into a more comfortable position. He gestured towards the screen with his other hand, "I was arranging some stuff."
He had been sending an email, and when she saw the recipient, Tong Su was taken aback.
"Mao Zai Studio?"
Wasn't that the largest paparazzi team in the entertainment industry?
After he closed the email window, a webpage version of Weibo appeared.
The hot searches were full of recent events from the film set. A voting poll created by a large V user popped up, with options for her and Lan Shuer in red and blue, respectively, and numbers rapidly jumping around.
Xi Tong Su: 1,743 votes.
Lan Shuer: 432 votes.
Xi Chen Zhao flashed a slight smile, not offering an explanation. He simply said, "You'll find out tomorrow morning. You've had a long day; let's rest early."
Aware that Xi Chen Zhao must have arranged everything for her, Tong Su nodded, standing up. She picked up several items to remove her makeup and freshen up.
When she stepped out applying facial mask essence, she was surprised to find that Xi Chen Zhao hadn't left. Instead, he casually strode towards the guest room bathroom with a bathrobe in hand!
"!"
Her eyes widened in astonishment, though she remembered to hold her face to prevent essence from dripping. Stammering, she asked, "Brother?"
Xi Chen Zhao turned back, nodded at her, and said, "I'm going to freshen up."
"Not that… why… Is the hotel suite fully booked?"
Xi Chen Zhao raised an eyebrow, his face calm. "It's not."
"Then why are you in my room?!"
"Do you want me to leave?"
Tong Su hurriedly shook her head. She definitely didn't want Xi Chen Zhao to leave, but his sudden appearance made her wonder if he planned to stay in this suite for the night.
It wasn't the first time they shared a suite. When she first landed in this world, it was Xi Chen Zhao who rescued her from paparazzi. Then, he had stayed in the room next to hers.
But...
Xi Tong Su nervously scratched her head.
She felt that this time was different from the last. Back then, he was her brother, so it didn't matter much.
But now—
Now, she and Ji Yu had fallen out. Although they hadn't definitively broken up, it was more or less considered as the end of their relationship. All that remained was to return her engagement ring to him.
She was single again.
And Xi Chen Zhao's actions... seemed to be getting progressively more assertive.
It was as if he had finally made up his mind, firmly and without hesitation, to intertwine himself with her life.
