Arc 3: Part 16
Boom!
Whirling around, Tong Su saw several disciples of the Ziwei Palace with fierce expressions, resorting to self-detonating their Golden Cores stored in their dantians, desperately initiating the sect's soul-chasing transmission!
"Be careful!"
Instinctively, Tian Xuanzi reached out and pulled her into his embrace, protecting her.
Tong Su's nose bumped into his shoulder, causing a sting in her eyes and making them well up. But she didn't have time to rub them and quickly covered her ears.
A Golden Core self-detonation was equivalent to the full force of a Primordial Nascent Soul stage cultivator. Without Tian Xuanzi's protection, she would likely have been instantly torn to pieces!
But why would they choose to self-detonate?
After the booming noises, a cloud of dust spread. When Tong Su looked up again, she saw a glowing rift where the disciples' souls had exploded, revealing the image of the Ziwei Palace's Legal Enforcement Hall!
"A soul imprint?" said Tian Xuanzi.
In major sects, to prevent disciples from being assassinated, their masters would engrave a soul imprint on them.
This soul imprint would automatically transmit the last scenes of their lives back to the sect after their death. It enabled the elders to identify the killer and enabled relatives and friends to revenge.
Tong Su knew that she, too, had been imprinted with a soul mark, and the one who had inscribed it was Tian Xuanzi himself. This was not a secret — thus, when Feng Yinyue left her in the snowy wilderness, he intended that once she perished, the image transmitted to Tian Xuanzi would be nothing but the vast white snow, with no trace of the culprit to be found.
In the original story, Feng Yinyue incited the protagonist to commit suicide for this reason. The protagonist complied, leaving Tian Xuanzi to witness only the blazing inferno of Ziwei Palace.
No matter his rage, hatred, or desire for vengeance, the only people he could retaliate against were members of the Ziwei Palace.
For her, a demon spy in the human realm, it was beneficial to witness the humans fighting amongst themselves, reaping the rewards as they destroyed each other.
Tong Su urgently said, "Senior brother, they believe you have killed these disciples!"
"Don't worry," Tian Xuanzi replied coolly, his expression chilling, as several demon cultivators hastily approached to shield them, "They've initiated a soul mirror image."
The soul imprint had a little-known function: disciples above the Golden Core stage could choose to forcibly self-detonate to activate a soul mirror image.
It meant that the soul force would create a communicative mirror image between themselves and the sect, allowing people from both locations to converse directly.
Indeed, as the figures within the mirror became clearer, their expressions changed dramatically at the first glance of Tian Xuanzi's figure, and they gasped in utter shock:
"The demon lord! You’ve actually escaped the Ten Thousand Ghosts Demon Cave!"The Ten Thousand Ghosts Demon Cave is like hell on earth; a place where those who enter leave no trace behind, not even bones. And yet, he managed to break through the restraints and escape so quickly?
Among the figures in the mirror were seven or eight individuals, all key figures of the Ziwei Palace's current generation. The leader was a woman appearing to be in her late twenties, a cultivator in the later stages of transformation, and the head of the Ziwei Palace, Lu Han Yuanjun.
She was none other than Feng Yinyue’s master.
The few disciples who were still alive immediately began shouting through the mirror image as soon as the connection was made, crying out desperately, "Headmaster! This demon lord has extracted the spiritual roots and given them to Bai Tong, weakening himself greatly. Now is the weakest he will be! Bai Tong possesses healing—Ah!"
The demon cultivators, in a fit of anger and haste, intervened to silence them. Without a word from Tian Xuanzi, they did not dare to kill but instead knocked the disciples unconscious and cast them aside.
"Who? Bai Tong? She's here!"
The figures in the mirror were both shocked and enraged. As the dust settled and the scene grew clear, they took one look and were infuriated to the point of nearly falling over backward.
"Demon lord, you are cruel and inhumane! You deserve death!"
In the image on the other side, there was Tian Xuanzi, his robust upper body partially undressed, revealing his muscular torso, his expression icy cool. He was tightly embracing a young girl whose tattered and blood-stained clothes indicated distress.
—To any observer, he would seem a scoundrel caught in a vile act!
