Arc 1: Part 49
"Ji Yu, are you ready yet?"
"Also, Qi Yuanren, your guard character isn't the focus here. Shift to the right and stop hogging the camera!"
"Jiang Shuqi, what's the deal with your skirt? It's so long, are you hoping someone will step on it? Where is the props team? Fix her skirt!"
"The lights need to be darker! Cue the band!"
The whole set was filled with Director Zhang's roars. This wasn't just the first scene of "The Emperor" but also the first acting showdown between Xi Tong Su and Lan Shuer. Add to that, this was a one-on-one with the lead male character, Ji Yu. No one wanted to miss this opportunity, so the entire crew had gathered to watch.
However, Director Zhang didn't chase them away, he simply stressed that everyone must remain quiet and not delay his work or disturb the filming.
Xi Tong Su was in the dressing room, applying makeup and couldn't help but praise silently.
Leaving everything else aside, Director Zhang's professional quality was excellent. He might be blunt or smooth outside the set, but on it, he was meticulous and would not tolerate any carelessness from anyone.
Very soon, Lan Shuer and Ji Yu had changed their costumes and applied their makeup. They were ready to go on set.
Ji Yu, with his long hair disheveled, was dressed in a light, disorganized robe that revealed his broad chest. Leaning against the couch with a gloomy expression, he was portraying the main character in "The Emperor", a dethroned emperor striving to reclaim his throne.
At this point in the plot, he had just been forced by the main villain to abdicate, losing his kingdom and being demoted to the title of King of Shun'an. Under such humiliating circumstances, the outcast emperor is filled with unbearable pain, self-indulgence and debauchery, spending his days immersed in wine, women, and music, seeking only pleasure.
Lan Shuer, however, was in an revealing dancer's outfit, her figure seductively swaying with every step she took.
She was playing "Ji Qing Wan," one of the stepsisters of the main villain, Xiao Lingchen.
Ji Qing Wan's life is quite different from that of Ji Bai Zhu, who entered the palace to become the empress.
Ji Qing Wan had a dispute with the major villain since her childhood. After he gained power, she, naturally, faced nothing but suffering, and was soon kicked out of the Xiao Mansion, becoming a dancer and even entered the deposed emperor's mansion, effectively becoming his plaything.
"Your Majesty." The scantily-clad dancer bowed slightly, her seductive eyes luring with sweetness, her voice deftly coated in honey, asking, "Who do you prefer, me or the queen?"
The deposed emperor grimly hooked a corner of his mouth, pulling her into his arms, and holding a wine glass to her lips.
"Who... who's better?" he scoffed, "Her? She can't compare to you, you're my favorite... I'll make her pay for this one day!"
His tone was cold and contemptuous, filled with intense self-mockery, perfectly depicting a deposed emperor's resentment and unwillingness to accept his fate.
The performance was truly impressive!
Everyone marveled inwardly, thinking how Ji Yu and Lan Shuer had gotten into character so quickly without even starting to shoot. Ji Yu being an established actor, such a performance was expected. However, for Lan Shuer, a newcomer, to match Ji Yu's rhythm was truly significant.
Even without Ji Yu's help, years of honing her skills in the entertainment industry would likely yield significant results for her.
Lan Shuer snuggled in Ji Yu's arms, and they exchanged a knowing look, giving a small cold laugh.
Everyone thought they were preparing for their roles in advance, rehearsing their parts, but only they themselves knew that it was all typecasting!
Moreover, everything they said was even more so the truth.
Not long after, the door of the dressing room opened again, and Xi Tong Su was ready!
On the set, all eyes turned promptly, staring intently at the half-open door.
